U+I – specialist regeneration developer and investor – approached Sanders Studios with a very exciting brief; to create a fully immersive, on-site Virtual Reality (VR) experience and a set of CGIs for their official launch of The Record Store in Hayes.
Once the place where EMI mastered ground-breaking albums by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, The Record Store has now been extensively refurbished and modernised by award-winning architects AHMM. With its stunning flat iron façade and impressive internal space potential, this landmark art deco building offers over 84,705 sq ft of high end office space and is available now. The great advantage of VR is the fact it provides an accurate, immersive and realistic vision of how the high-spec office space could be configured for different occupiers’ needs.
The Experience
Positioned in front of a desk furnished with two primed Oculus Rifts, users had the ability to switch from reality to virtual reality in an instance. The experience not only illustrates how the space could be kitted out, but allows users to move through the interior to different standpoints and even floors, triggering fun info-graphics along the way by focusing on certain node points.
The monitor was wired into one of the Oculus Rift headsets, providing onlookers with a window into what the VR users were seeing.
To top it all off, we created a voiceover to accompany the user along the journey that emanated from the ‘Purple Haze’ record player you see below. To add a little authenticity, the speaker introduces himself as Robert (Bob) – an old employee of The Old Vinyl Factory – and goes on to guide the user through the functionality of the VR whilst departing some fascinating historical knowledge of the space along the way!
